Air Quality Education

SEEN has been awarded by the California Environmental Protection Agency with a grant from the Environmental Justice Small Grants Program. Our organization is partnering with the Central Valley Leadership Round Table to serve the city of Firebaugh, in Fresno County, and the surrounding region at three levels: 

• Teaching environmental science, robotics, and air quality workshops to K-12 students. Our experienced team will organize several workshops for students of different ages including soldering, sensors, climate change, environmental science, and other relevant topics to understand the challenges of air quality in the San Joaquin Valley. 
• Do-It-Yourself workshops for families, including how to make your own low-cost air filter. SEEN will provide all the necessary materials for the participating families. 
• Office hours for community leaders about current and forecasted state of the air in the region, and how to act. 

We will partner with teachers and local leaders to create the best possible curricula for children and families. 

SEEN is already partnering with AirGradient, a socially-committed manufacturer of low-cost, open-source air quality solutions. Open AirGradient is the organizational unit of AirGradient aiming to increase air quality awareness by providing open-source air quality monitoring hardware and by freely collaborating with other organizations to share knowledge and data with the public.

The San Joaquin Valley of California has the top three most polluted urban nuclei by annual particulate matter, corresponding to the cities of five of the eight counties in the Valley: Kern, Fresno, Madera, Kings, and Tulare.
